The Effects of Domestic Abuse on Children
“Remember mummy when dad used to play the banister game? He would take us to the top of the stairs and hold us over the banister dangling us. You used to scream and cry and tell him to stop but he wouldn’t”……
….” Our lives are so much better now mummy”……
…”My daughter was like a different baby when he left. She was so happy and content. The crying stopped and she was no longer jumpy”….
…” day my Ex left my son’s violence stopped! It was incredible”…
…”Empower the mother and you empower the children. I was able to play, educate and discipline my children. I could do none of them when the dominator was in our lives. I was able to use the work in the book to show the children how a healthy adult behaves”….

The Recovery Toolkit
Have you left an abusive relationship?
Are you still carrying guilt?
Do you still think what happened was your fault?
Do you find dealing with new people in your life something to be scared about?
Written by Sue Penna
If you’ve answered yes to the above questions you are not alone. Many people who leave that former relationship in many ways. Perhaps you feel guilty when making decisions on your own? You may worry about what motivates others to befriend you? Maybe your own children are having to re-learn who it is that’s the adult in the room now that your ex-partner has gone from their lives.
If this sounds familiar, then The Recovery Toolkit is the book for you. Written in an easy and accessible style, the book will take you on a journey that is part, part guide.
If you have been in an abusive relationship or you currently work with individuals who’ve lived through those experiences, this book will give you the opportunity to understand the impact coercive control and abuse has on your emotional health.
Written by Sue Penna, the book is based on the 12-week group programme entitled The Recovery Toolkit. It is also based on Sue’s professional and lived experience, having worked for more than 20 years as an Occupational Therapist for the NHS’s Mental Health Services. During this time Sue worked with individuals who experienced childhood trauma that left them vulnerable to further abuse as adults. For the last 15 years Sue has specialised in working with individuals who have experienced domestic abuse. The initial programme was created by Sue when she volunteered at a women’s refuge.
Life’s Healing Choices
Freedom from your Hurts, Hang-ups and Habits.
Written by John Baker
We’ve all been hurt by other people, we’ve hurt ourselves, and we’ve hurt others. And as a result, every single one of us ends up with some sort of hurt, hang-up or habit. But question we all face is, where do we go from here?
Life’s Healing Choices offers freedom from our hurts, hang-ups and habits through eight healing choices that promise true happiness and life transformation. Using the beatitudes of Jesus as a foundation. Senior Pastor Rick Warren of Saddleback Church and John Baker, who is also a pastor at Saddleback, developed the eight choices shared in this book.
In addition to practical, encouraging biblical teaching, each chapter includes two real-life stories of men and women whose lives have been transformed by living out the eight choices in this book. Through making each of these choices, you too will find God’s pathway to wholeness, growth, spiritual maturity, happiness and healing. You’ll find real answers, real hope, and a real future – one healing choice at a time.
